The APC Smart-UPS X 1000VA is APC's new extended run time model. This is the newer version of the older XL units that allowed external battery packs to be added for extra run time. The SMX1000 functions very much the same way. Additional battery packs (pn: SMX48RMBP2U) can be added to increase the run time. For example, with a load of 100W the SMX1000 will provide 134 minutes of run time. The same 100W load on the SMX1000 with a SMX48RMBP2U will provide a run time of 502 minutes. A significant increase in run time.
