If you’re replacing your UPS batteries with high quality batteries, they should last 3-5 years. If you’re buying junk batteries then don’t be surprised if you’re getting less than a year.
High quality UPS batteries are designed to have a 3-5 year life time. It’s a good idea to test your batteries once a year to make sure that the UPS and the batteries are working properly.
Around the third year it’s a great idea to do a full calibration to make sure you’re getting a proper run time. If you see your run time is as per specifications you’re good to keep going.
Around the 4 year mark do this test again, if you notice performance slipping then it’s a good idea to invest in some new batteries. You can let this slide for awhile longer, but performance will be hampered and there’s obviously more risk.
At the 5 year mark you should definitely consider getting new batteries. We have plenty of customers who get 5,6,7 years out of their batteries but we don’t recommend running them that long to make sure you always have optimum protection.
Test your UPS annually to make sure your system is performing properly. If you notice your batteries are starting to lose charge then change them right away to avoid surprises when the power fails.
